Sculptural Tea Pots & Libation Sets

For a long time, the teapot has been a fascination of mine, and recently I have started exploring decanter sets.  The decanter sets have been strictly functional; however, the teapots are made both as functional objects and sculptural objects.  My artistic inquiry for the sculptural teapot aims to engage viewers and evoke curiosity by infusing each teapot with a unique gesture or mood, achieved through the nontraditional placement and manipulation of its essential elements: the body, spout, handle, lid, and foot.

In many of my pieces, I incorporate iconography that reflects cityscapes, a theme that resonates deeply with me. The silhouette of a city, reminiscent of a sonogram, captures the pulse and rhythm of urban life, with buildings reaching skyward in a dance of controlled chaos that is both bewildering and exhilarating.

I take immense pride in the finishes of my work, crafting my own slips and glazes to create a diverse palette of colors. This hands-on approach not only allows for a broad spectrum of color opportunities but also plays a crucial role in establishing the mood and ambiance of each teapot. Most of my pieces are adorned with a satin or matte glaze and undergo multiple firings—3 to 5 times—to ensure depth and vibrancy.

Ultimately, my teapots are more than mere vessels; they invite contemplation and dialogue, transforming the everyday ritual of tea into an experience that is rich in meaning and beauty.
